Music to our ears?

Shazam, the phone app that identifies music, will now be pre-loaded onto LG handsets, starting in Europe.

The LG Optimus GT540 will be the first phone to benefit from the partnership.

Shazam's Android app lets users discover new music by identifying unknown tracks, with the option to purchase the tune, read reviews and biographies, view the most popular tagged songs and find tour information, with the ability to buy tickets.

The app, which is currently used by 75m people, allows its fans to share music choices with friends via Facebook and Twitter plus watch YouTube videos of artists.

The pre-loaded app comes with a 7 day free trial for the Shazam Encore version, which includes unlimited tagging, but users will have to stump up £2.99 if they want to continue using the full service.  However, they can tag up to 5 songs a month using the free Shazam app.

Shazam said the app would be preloaded into more handsets available in more countries in future.

"Our aim has always been to deliver a fast, accurate and reliable service to consumers to further enhance the capabilities of their devices. Shazam will bring the most complete music discovery experience to millions more LG smartphone users around the world," said Andrew Fisher, CEO of Shazam.

LG has been working to boost its Optimus offering, recently unveiling two new handsets, both powered by Android 2.2 Froyo. It has also announced its Optimus phones will include an integrated second generation NVIDIA Tegra mobile processor called Tegra 2, in a bid to make its wares more attractive in a crowded smartphone market.
