LG has launched two smartphones, the Optimus One and slightly prettier Optimus Chic both powered by Android 2.2 Froyo.

The phones are early adopters of Froyo, which promises speedier and smoother web browsing plus web page loading, app pop-ups and multi-tasking.

Both phones boast some tools for professionals including the ability to sync with Outlook Calendar. They also offer portable Wi-Fi hotspots to share a single 3G connection.

LG worked with Google to come up with the Optimus One and packed it was Google Mobile Services in a bid to make it "the perfect entry point for prospective smartphone owners." It also boasts a camera with face-tracking, a wide HVGA screen and 1500mAh camera battery.

The Optimus One's sleeker sister, the Optimus Chic comes in two flavours- black and white with touch-sensitive buttons. It also allows users to remotely control their phone from their PC. Compatible with DLNA, multimedia content can easily be shared with other DLNA certified devices such as TVs, AV systems and laptop computers.

The Optimus One will be available in over 90 countries and arrive in Europe in October, while the Optimus Chic will arrive fashionably later in November.

Dr Skott Ahn, CEO of LG mobile and communications, said the two phones are expected to shift over 10m units and become some of the company's biggest sellers. He also predicts Android will become the dominant platform in the smartphone market.

"Performance will be critical. Processor speed will be a key differentiator," he added.

Ahn said LG would be ‘aggressive' in pushing its new Optimus offerings and expects them to ‘take the top position very soon'.
