LG will launch a series of super speedy smartphones with an integrated second generation NVIDIA Tegra mobile processor called Tegra 2.

Tegra 2 includes what is claimed to be the world's first dual core CPU designed to boost performance and power through complex tasks. The processor will be integrated into smartphones forming part of LG's Optimus Series, which the company said is a new line of handsets with more power and better graphics.

Tegra 2 also claims to be the only ultra low-power NVIDIA GeForce GPU and the first 1080p HD mobile video processor. The company said the two 1GHz processors sharing the workload in Tegra 2 will give users twice as speedy web browsing, plus gaming experience that is five times faster than single core processors running at 1GHz.

"LG is committed to making its Optimus Series smart devices the de facto standard in speed and graphics performance," said Chang Ma, VP of marketing strategy at LG.

LG's Optimus Series smartphones featuring the NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile processor will debut from the fourth quarter of the year.

If this is as much of an improvement over Tegra as Tegra was over just about everything else, this is a sure winner. My Zune HD gets nothing but admiration for the speed and shininess of everything on it, and that's just a single core at some-hundred MHz. A 1GHz dual core should make a nice mess of the iPhone lovers determined their contraption is fastest =D
