HD- highly disappointing?

Brits desperate to get their hands on the new HTC Desire HD and Desire Z handsets will have to hang on for a couple of extra weeks.

Vodafone had previously announced it would start shipping the Desire handsets on 15 October but has now said it will not start shipping until towards the end of the month. Meanwhile, Amazon has said the Desire Z will be available from 1 November and the Desire HD on the 15th.

There does not seem to be any news from the other carriers with no update from T-Mobile and Orange and O2 keeping quiet- although a lively debate is raging on O2's forum.

There are rumours the HTC Desire HD will only be available on O2 via The Carphone Warehouse, with some people speculating that O2 will put all its efforts into shifting new Windows Phone 7 offerings. However, it would seem that many O2 customers are not happy if the rumour does prove true and are threatening to leave the company.

"I'm currently on the phone to O2, to get my pac code, so that I can order elsewhere," wrote one frustrated person on the forum.

It has been widely reported that the holdup is due to extra quality testing by Google. A message from online retailer Superetrader, reported by Android Police, reportedly said: "Apparently, both units have failed last minute Google TA (Type Approval) testing which is exactly what was said about the original Desire days before release!"

While the handsets may be a little delayed, the holdup is unlikely to stop people clamoring for the new phones ahead of Christmas. The Desire HD boasts a massive 4.3 inch screen, 8MP camera and speedier Sense UI, while the Desire Z offers a slide-out Qwerty keyboard, 5MP camera and 3.7 inch touchscreen.

Owners of the new handsets will also be able to make use of the freshly launched HTC Sense.com which will let them operate their phones remotely, among other features.

I believe the Desire Z is delayed because of the hinge on the keypad is getting alot of bad feedback from users of the T-mobile version of the same phone. I think this will be delayed a bit longer.
