Android completes jump to 2.0

Naughty but nice

With version 1.6 only recently making its way into the wild, Google's open source mobile operating system Android has wasted little time in announcing version 2.0 support in the Android SDK (software developers kit).

In a blog post, Android SDK tech lead Xavier Ducrohet speaks of his excitement, and says: "Android 2.0 brings new developer APIs for sync, Bluetooth, and a few other areas."

It looks like Android 2.0 - also known as Eclair for some reason - will allow users to sync their devices to a number of different contact sources, as well as allowing something called ‘Quick Contact' to be embedded within an application. The new Bluetooth API is expected to facilitate peer-to-peer activities like gaming.

As if going up to a whole new major version wasn't enough, Ducrohet said there will be one last minor update before the end of the year.

Android has released its usual video to show off the new features:
