New and improved?

HP launched its latest netbook yesterday, calling it just the Mini 110 in the States but the Compaq Mini 110c in EMEA. It's the apparent successor to the HP Compaq Mini 700, which has only been available for a few months, and seems to offer more of a refresh than an upgrade.

Right now it looks like Europe is only getting the Windows XP edition and not the MI Linux OS HP has developed especially for netbooks. UK pricing will start at £279 in the UK, €299 in Europe and $329 in the States, so we don't seem to be getting too rough a deal on the exchange rate for once.

It won't be available to buy in the UK until August, however.

It has a ten inch screen, uses the latest Atom processors and weighs in at 1.17kg with a three cell battery. Other than that, the spec seems to be reasonably standard issue, but the sub £300 price point should make it a tempting alternative for people who like the look and feel of HP PCs.

"Our Compaq Mini 110c packs an awesome array of features into a cool-looking and ultra-mobile design that goes easy on the wallet", said Charl Snyman, VP of the Personal Systems Group, HP EMEA. "This makes it the perfect companion PC for cost and style-conscious mobile consumers looking for supreme connectivity and a familiar Windows experience in a mini that can be carried anywhere."
