Another plus
The new social networking offering from Google - Google+ - seems to have been taken a lot more seriously than previous efforts from the search giant to create a social network, although that's not saying much.
It looks like Google is keen to capitalise on a launch that has seen 20 million people jump on board in just three weeks, with extras like an iPhone app. The latest apparent addition, however, could get the attention of the current social networking big-hitter - Facebook - in a whole new way.
First reported by All Things D is the prospect of a Google+ gaming network. Right now social games such as those made by Zynga and EA/Playfish are a big deal on Facebook, and a major revenue stream for all concerned as people, for some reason, buy virtual goods and other enhancements using real money.
The launch of a Google social gaming network would introduce competition to a market that Facebook currently monopolises. Furthermore the report reckons Google would charge developers significantly less for the privilege.
That report didn't manage to get any comment from Google, but eagle-eyed Slashgear noticed a new sentence in the Google+ help articles that said: "If you're looking for updates shared from games, check out your Games stream." That sentence has since disappeared from its previous location, implying it was published prematurely, but that seems like a confirmation of the service to us.
