MTV has launched its own On Demand service to host current shows like Jersey Shore as well as past hits such as The Real World.

The service, called MTV OD panders to MTV's ‘new generation', which according to the channel is "always on, works to its own schedule and watches TV in its own way".

MTV OD lets telly addicts instantly access full length episodes of current and archived shows and also includes exclusive MTV OD footage such as preview episodes, behind the scenes content and links to Facebook.

Interestingly MTV has decided not to charge per programme streamed but instead viewers will have to pay £1 for 1 day's access or £2 for a week's access to the site. MTV said that users will be able to pay by SMS with PayPal in February.

The service also has full media player functionality and variable bandwidth streaming from DSL to HD.

Philip O'Ferrall, senior VP at MTV Networks International said: "Today, the MTV Generation is connected and driven by search and social media recommendation. We are launching MTV OD in response to the tremendous demand for full length content on our websites."

"MTV OD both expands our 360 vision for all of our linear shows and increases our digital footprint enabling us to make our shows more available to fans than they have ever been before," he added.
