Lights back on
Reports that Egyptian ISPs are reconnecting to the internet and normal service is being gradually restored are emerging, ending the Egyptian internet blockade designed to suppress civil unrest.
Egypt has been without internet since last Thursday, but a number of companies monitoring the situation have confirmed that the country is coming out of its blackout, The Daily Telegraph reported.
BGPMon, a networking company that monitors internet traffic routing, reportedly said that it spotted "the first signs of life from the previously unreachable Egyptian networks" just before 10am GMT.
The firm apparently said that most Egyptian ISPs have re-announced Border Gateway Protocol routes and Google too has confirmed that Egypt is back online.
Google tweeted: "Good news: Internet access being restored in Egypt."
The news comes after Google broke the Egyptian internet blockade by creating a tool to convert voicemails sent from Egypt into tweets.
