Samsung has brought film streaming to its Blu-ray players and home theatre systems with the launch of a LOVEFiLM application.

Owners of Samsung's new Blu-ray products will need a LOVEFiLM subscription of £5.99 or above to make use of the app, allowing them to stream films on their Blu-ray player via Samsung's Internet@TV service.

Samsung Blu-ray players now account for a quarter of the European market in terms of sales and 24 percent in terms of units sold between January and September 2010, according to research firm GfK.

"The Internet@TV service offers viewers a gateway to access great content in an exciting new way, unlocking the full potential of our connected devices. Services like LOVEFiLM will offer our customers more variety, choice and entertainment from our products," said Andy Griffiths, VP of consumer electronics at Samsung UK.

The firm said it will roll out more apps throughout 2011, having encouraged developers to create their own apps for the TV app store.

PlayStation 3 and Sony Bravia TV owners can already stream LOVEFiLM movies and of course Amazon has recently acquired the film rental service, which currently operates in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

Simon Calver, chief executive of LOVEFiLM International, said of the acquisition: "The deal is a winner for the members who love LOVEFiLM because of its value, choice, convenience and innovation in home entertainment. With Amazon's unequivocal support we can significantly enhance our members' experience across Europe."

Its also available on some Sony Blu-ray players. I've been using it on my s370 for about a month and I'm impressed. Works well and is reliable. Just wish the film selection was better!
Im just wondering how old the players have to be to be supported. I have an old 2500 series and already have a lovefilm account so this might be off use to me if they will support my old player.
