Swan song?

Nokia is rumoured to be pulling the plug on its unlimited music service, according to internal documents leaked online.

Esphoneblog reported that Nokia will not ship anymore Ovi Music Unlimited handsets, having obtained an internal email that seems to lay out the details of the rumoured changes.

From 16 January, customers with musical-bundled handsets (formerly branded as Comes with Music devices) will not been able to renew their unlimited music licence, according to the blog.

Apparently the move will not affect customers who currently use an Ovi Music Unlimited device but they will not be able to renew.

According to Tech Radar, Nokia's Comes with Music service made its debut back in October 2008 but was not a big hit in the UK, despite proving popular in Singapore.

It is thought that pricey handsets and reports that music was tricky to download and then only listenable on a PC or phone put some punters off. Nokia apparently brought a DRM version of the service to China and one might speculate its service could have done better in the UK under the same listener-friendly conditions.
