Juicy Apple gossip

iPad owners eager to get their hands on Rupert Murdoch's long awaited news service, The Daily, will have to hang on a little while longer.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple and News Corp made a joint decision to delay the launch of The Daily, which was due to make its tablet debut next week.

Sources reportedly told the newspaper that Apple needed more time to adjust its subscription service for publications sold via its iTunes shop so the delay is not due to the app itself, which News Corp has apparently been showing off in recent weeks.

Apparently the launch has been pushed back by weeks rather than months.

The Daily is believed to use a new ‘push' subscription feature designed by Apple so users will get a copy of The Daily delivered to their tablet every day and automatically be billed for the publication  on a weekly or monthly basis.

Neither Apple nor News Corp has commented on the WSJ's report.

Meanwhile, a rumour is circulating that Apple will scrap the home button from its iPad's design.

BGR reported that one of its Apple sources said that part of the reason Apple added multitouch gestures for the iPad in its iOS 4.3 beta is because the next iPad will not have a home button- an integral part of the tablet's design so far.

The site reckons future iPad users will use multitouch gestures to move around the home screen and launch the app switcher instead of using the prominent home button.

The site has also been told that the iPhone too will reportedly lose its home button. Its source apparently claims that Apple employees are already testing iPhones and iPads sans button and consumers could get their first home-button-free products as early as next year.

It has been previously rumoured that Steve Jobs wasn't keen on including a physical button on the iPhone in the first place.
