Firmware fireworks
We have no idea if this is deliberate or not, but Samsung has really cramped Sony Ericsson's style today. While finally upgrading the Experia X10s of UK users to Android 2.1 is a case of better late than never, such little triumph as SE could claim was surely removed by the update of the Samsung Galaxy S to Android 2.2 earlier today.
SE has been way behind the pack when it comes to Android updates. While all other OEMs have been at version 2.1 for most of this year, with the likes of HTC wasting little time getting to 2.2, SE users have been stuck with 1.6, and haven't been too happy about it. So while they'll welcome the arrival of 2.1, that's unlikely to see an end to the muttering.
Perhaps unsurprisingly SE has been pretty quiet about the roll-out, which actually commenced across Europe at the start of the week. It took a tip from HEXUS reader Barry Davidson (cheers Baz) to bring the relevant tweet to our attention.
In years to come, when you're relating the birth of the mobile Internet to your grandchildren, perhaps you'll refer to 5 November 2010 as ‘belated Android update Friday', then again maybe not. For more information on these updates you can access the Sony Ericsson product blog here. Let us know how it goes.
