A pack of tabs

Probably the most significant tablet launch since the iPad is the Samsung Galaxy Tab - a seven inch Android take on the concept. This is significant not just as competition to the iPad, but as the first serious effort at an Android tablet, with the Google mobile OS not yet optimised for this form factor.

We already knew Vodafone would stock the Galaxy Tab as it's Samsung's launch partner. But a few other retailers are jostling to be associated with this product. Notably, Orange issued a press release today listing the full range of prices and tariffs available to match a similar one from Vodafone. We've reproduced their tariff tables below.

Right now they're the only operators to detail their deals for the Galaxy Tab, with O2, Three and T-Mobile having all said it's coming soon, but several other retailers have joined the party.

Carphone Warehouse is offering the Tab at £529.99 standalone or £499.99 with a £10 per month rolling contract offering 1GB data per month. PC World has listed it at £529.99 standalone too, as has Tesco, while eXpansys wants £20 more for the tablet. This bloke - Stephen Dalchow from Malden - was apparently the first person to get one in the UK.

Incidentally, thanks to tipster Bunjiweb for advising us that the Toshiba Folio 100 will also be available soon at PC World for £329 and the retail giant will also be stocking the new range of Archos tablets, together with Three Mi-Fi, this week.

Indeed. I don't really get why these should cost anywhere near £500, but maybe I'm being naive.

no, it's not you.
Ouch thats more than I was hoping for…I am in the market for a tablet early next year if funds allow, but not at that price. If I am paying that sort of money i'd rather get an ipad to be honest - if the samsung had come in at around £300 i'd have been tempted but a bit much for me.

Still, i'm going to have a hunt for some reviews, as its an interesting device. Maybe the Toshiba Folio would be a decent alternative.
..ouch.
£100 more that an iPad? I honestly cannot see this selling at all…
