Stellar idea?
Samsung has come up with an interesting marketing technique by offering commuters a free 48 hour loan of its Galaxy Pad ahead of its launch on 1 November.
Devised as a way of letting lucky Londoners experience the joys of travelling with a tablet (and presumably inspiring jealousy among fellow bored commuters) Samsung hopes the trial will show people how it has packed in a load of handy entertainment and communication features into its new 7 inch, Android 2.2 powered tablet.
The loan will run from Monday 18 October over a 2 week period, where a limited amount of Galaxy Tabs will be available for free hire at 4 London stations: Liverpool St, Balham, Highbury & Islington and Ealing Broadway.
Each device will be lent for 48 hours on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week and people wanting to get involved can apply by sending an email to galaxytab@tubetest.co.uk or speak to a member of the Galaxy Tab team outside one of the four tube stations, (where presumably their details will be taken so they can't run off with the gadget).
Simon Stanford, MD of Mobile for Samsung UK and Ireland said: "The portability of the Samsung Galaxy Tab is one of its key features - you can literally fit it in your pocket or your handbag so it's great for people who spend time commuting to and from work each day. At Samsung we thought what better way to showcase this than to give Londoners the opportunity to test the Galaxy Tab for themselves before they can buy them in the shops. We're keen to hear what they have to say."
