Storm in a teacup?

Nokia has denied rumours that its much hyped N8 handset has been delayed again despite confusing in-house information, which at first appears to suggest the contrary.

There were rumours and a rather baffling statement doing the rounds that soon-to-be owners of Nokia's much hyped N8 Handset would have to wait a little longer for their new phone as shipping had been pushed back a few weeks to October.

However, Nokia's spokesman told AFP the reports are ‘inaccurate'. "We have said we expect to ship the N8 by the end of the third quarter and that hasn't changed," he reportedly said.

The firm confirmed: "there have been no developments within the company to delay the N8's appearance in stores."

Nokia claims the misunderstanding has come from its own marketing department. Earlier, its marketing team wrote on the company blog: "As it can take time from the beginning of shipment to arriving at their doorstep, in full transparency, we have advised our pre-order customers that they should expect their new Nokia N8 in October."

It confusingly admitted trying to get the phone into the hands of its online pre-order customers by the end of September.

Adding to the general bafflement, The Wall Street Journal as well as several other publications received a statement from Nokia, which reportedly read: "To ensure a great user experience, we have decided to hold the shipments for a few weeks to do some final amends."

The issue is made even more confusing as the eagerly anticipated handset has previously been reported to hit the shops on 1 October anyway and is set to be free to customers opting for a £35 a month mobile tariff. So has it been delayed? It seems not as the handset has been destined to reach customers in early October for a while.
