Update update

Android handset maker Motorola has released a new schedule for its Android update releases. The good news is that Milestone users will finally get their hands on version 2.2 - otherwise known as Froyo - and with it things like Flash 10.1, by the end of the year.

While the update will be gratefully received, you have to wonder why it has taken Motorola so long to get Froyo out to the masses, especially when rival HTC has already rolled it out to the Desire.

Still, at least the Milestone is getting it eventually, something that can't be said of the Dext and Backflip, which Motorola has now said won't even be getting Android 2.1 update.

While the reason for this is probably that Motorola will soon render the two of them obsolete with new launches, they've only been on the market for less than a year and many users will have committed to their contract for a couple of years. We can't imagine they'll be too chuffed at being dropped from the Android update schedule so soon.

Meanwhile, Motorola in the US has sent a cease and desist order to My Droid World for hosting an apparently leaked Froyo update for the Droid X on its site. If nothing else this must surely prove to Moto how keen people are for the update.

Thought this was going to happen.:telephone:

So I jailbroke my Dext & installed a “custom ROM” which gives me 2.1.
