Speaking up

The GSMA has unveiled a varied lineup of speakers to headline its 2011 Mobile World Congress conference programme, perhaps to signify the diversification of the mobile phone world.

Executives from internet firms Google, Twitter and startup Square will speak at the event, while China Mobile will join traditional giants AT&T and Qualcomm.

Interestingly no handset manufacturers will speak at the programme and it seems that Nokia is keeping a relatively low profile once more.

Under the theme of ‘leading the transformation,' speakers will focus on apps, mobile money, advertising, mHealth, embedded mobile, next-generation technologies and OSS/BSS.

The conference will also offer breakout sessions exploring business strategy, cloud computing, consumer electronics, devices, media and entertainment, network capacity and social networking.

Confirmed speakers so far include:

  • Randall Stephenson, Chairman, CEO and President, AT&T
  • Li Yue, President, China Mobile
  • Eric Schmidt, Chairman and CEO, Google
  • Paul Jacobs, Chairman and CEO, Qualcomm
  • Jack Dorsey, CEO, Square
  • Evan Williams, CEO, Twitter

Building on the four day conference, the event will include an exhibition to showcase the latest mobile technologies from: Alcatel-Lucent, Bharti Airtel, Ericsson, Etisalat, Huawei, LG, Nokia Siemens Networks, Qtel, Samsung, SK Telecom, Vodafone and ZTE.

The GSMA will hold its App Planet again, which brings together many elements of the mobile app ecosystem.

Mobile World Congress will take place on 14-17 February 2011 at the Fira de Barcelona in Barcelona and is expected to attract more than 50,000 attendees.
