It's been a busy day for Intel news, but little commented-upon has been a refresh of its CPU price list. Closer examination reveals that Intel added not one but six new processors to the list, all of the mobile variety.

At the top of the pile we have the ‘Extreme Mobile' i7-940XM which, even if you buy it in batches of 1,000, will still cost you $1,096 per processor. At 2.13GHz, this replaces the 2GHz 920XM, which now looks a relative bargain at $1,054.

We then have a couple of Core i7 Mobiles, a ULV Core i7 Mobile, a ULV Core i5 Mobile and a ULV Celeron M. In all cases the new processors offer a moderate frequency increase over existing CPUs for only a nominal price rise, so it's worth being aware of these new options if you're in the market for a new lappy.

Here are all six with their vital statistics.

Model L2 cache (MB) Cores Threads Frequency (GHz) Process (nm) Price ($)
i7-940XM 8 4 8 2.13 45 1,096
i7-840QM 8 4 8 1.86 45 568
i7-740QM 6 4 8 1.73 45 378
i7-660UM 4 2 4 1.33 32 317
i5-540UM 3 2 4 1.20 32 250
U3400 2 2 2 1.06 32 134

It would be useful to provide the “boost” levels as well as the “base” in that table as the i7-540 is also 1.2Ghz like the i5-430UM and the i3-330UM. The difference is the i3 has no boost, the i5 has a 1.73 boost and the i7 has a 2Ghz boost.

Edit:

Also I thought the i7-540 was going to be a i5, which would make scene allowing the i7-660UM to have a base clock jump as well. All be it a small one. i5-540UM Also in your summary you mention one i5 processor and there are none in the list, so I assume i7-540UM is a mistake intel's ark does not know about it either.
Yup - my bad - corrected.
