Herd mentality

You can't beat a bit of healthy competition can you? When the iPhone was first launched the sole provider was O2 in the UK. Now, however, we have our choice of all five and at least one virtual network operator. In theory, all this competition should offer real choice for iPhone 4 consumers, but the reality doesn't really deliver.

Orange and O2 have already revealed their iPhone 4 tariffs, and now Vodafone has joined the party. We've taken screen shots of the prices for both flavours of phone and for both 18 and 24-month contracts, which you can see below.

In many cases there is no difference whatsoever between the three operators. For example: if you want a 16GB model on a 24-month, 600 minute per month contract, all three will charge you £35 per month and £119 up-front.

There is some variation at the bottom and top ends of the tariff lists. Vodafone will let you get hold of a 16GB once for a mere £25 per month plus £219 up-front, but you only get to talk for an hour and a quarter per month. At the top end, O2 seems to offer the best deal with unlimited minutes and 1GB data for £60 per month.

Over on bitterwallet (NSFW lots of swearing) there are a couple of comparison spreadsheets setup, not sure if they've been updated with Voda yet but they might make it clearer if you're undecided.

Funny thing there is that there isnt actually a 8GB 3GS. The 8GB is just a standard 3G device.

Other than that the Voda prices have come down, I managed to get a snapshot the other day of the tariffs they released before they took it down. Now they have re appeared and they are about the same as the O2 ones with the iPhone pricing.

There is an 8GB 3GS, it will be released at the same time as the iPhone 4 to replace the 3G.

I thought vodas costs went up? At least handset prices did?

Prices did go up compared to the leaked details - handset prices are up £20-30 across all the plans, matching Orange and o2 which is pretty disappointing!
Well that was expected - as soon as orange released there prices - they could be a couple of ££ cheaper than orange then they win - Just goes to show how much they can afford to cut the units by and still make a profit though!

Interested what 3 have to offer - apparently (rumors as per usual) 3 are planning to undercut everyone. and someone said that their twitter page was saying there planning to sell from the 26th.
