Delphic wisdom

In a recent leak was got a preview of Dell's probable contribution to the Windows Phone 7 line-up, due to launch towards the end of this year. But, that infidelity aside, Dell looks like it's given its heart to Android in the mobile device market.

A leaked slide, got hold of by androidcentral.com, shows Dell's Android-based mobile device roadmap (which is rather clumsily calls its MID/netbook/tablet roadmap), and reveals a spectrum of form-factors covering screen sizes from 4.3 inches to 11 inches.

The slide concurs with many of the features of the earlier leak - including the Thunder smartphone and two of the slate devices. But there are also a couple of ARM-based mini-notebooks, called Sparta and Athens (what, no Dellphi? - Ed).

Other morsels revealed in the slide are the interesting choice of name for Dell's on UI for slates - Bender - and a version of the 7 inch slate that seems to be dedicated to mobile HD TV and developed in partnership with LG.

There are a few things that make us question the accuracy of this slide, however. Products like the Looking Glass slates are set to arrive much later on this roadmap than had previously been leaked - in fact even the way months are grouped into quarters is irregular. Also, the ‘small' category refers to Windows Mobile, rather than Windows Phone, and the screen size of the device turns out to be 4.1 inches, not the 4.3 stated at the start.
