One of the less publicised aspects of the booming mobile Internet market is interactive radio, but that could be about to change.

UBC Media has announced that digital radio station Absolute Radio has launched an ‘iTunes tagging' service. Being an Apple thing, it's restricted to the iPod nano, but if you use one to listen to the radio, you can now tag a song when you hear it on Absolute.

Then, the next time you sync with iTunes, you can identify the track, find out more about it and, of course, buy it.

The technology has been developed by Unique Interactive, the software division of UBC. "The use of radio as a prompt to purchase for music has been a vision of ours for the last three years," said Simon Cole, CEO of UBC.

"I'm really pleased to see much of the work we have put into developing IP in this area coming to fruition in our work with Absolute. We are confident that tagging technologies are certain to be central to the broadcast model of the future."

We'd like to hear from any members of the HEXUS.community discussion forums who have tried this service as we don't own an iPod nano.

It's a pretty nifty idea, being able to pick up the latest songs as you hear them.
