The US military and government are being hacked by the Chinese authorities according to the scaremongers on a US congressional advisory panel.

The Chinese government itself - rather than just amateur hackers - was accused of poking holes in American government and defense computer networks, hoarding any useful data it managed to find and taking it back behind the bamboo curtain for presumed nefarious purposes.

"A large body of both circumstantial and forensic evidence strongly indicates Chinese state involvement in such activities," the 12-member, bipartisan US-China Economic and Security Review Commission said in its 2009 report to Congress.

"China's peacetime computer exploitation efforts are primarily focused on intelligence collection against US targets and Chinese dissident groups abroad," it read.

The 367 page report also lambasted the Middle Kingdom for being the most aggressive country when it comes to spying on the US and using the information garnered from its espionage to beef up its army and flesh out economic development. One might even think the US was a wee bit jealous.
