Broadline distributor Avnet found itself weighed down with corporate accolades from chip-maker AMD, which named Avnet its global distributor of the year "based on its ability to expand AMD's market presence and revenues globally."

On top of that, and over-egging the pudding somewhat, AMD also named Avnet distie of the year for EMEA, North Americal and Australia/New Zealand. We wouldn't be surprised if Avnet was named pipe-smoker of the year too.

"This prestigious award from AMD validates that Avnet's solutions-driven approach to technology sales and marketing is helping both our customers and suppliers accelerate their success around the globe," said Phil Gallagher, president of Avnet Technology Solutions.

"Avnet understands the intricacies of the global technology market," said John Byrne, VP of world-wide channel sales at AMD. "They work hand-in-hand with our customers to provide global supply chain support, coupled with the technology, knowledge and services required to enable long-term growth opportunities."

Avnet, which seeks to differentiate itself from other multinational disties like Ingram Micro and Tech Data with a more ‘solutions-based' approach, has apparently been working with AMD for 35 years.
