Security software is one sector of the technology industry that looks pretty well catered for. With so many strong and well-established brands, you wouldn't envy any new brand trying to break into it. Well that's exactly what US based Sunbelt Software is trying to do.

We spoke to David Parkin - EMEA sales director - and Muktadir Khan - systems engineer - to find out how Sunbelt hopes to achieve the improbable.

A key USP of Vipre - the name of their anti-malware product - is its small footprint. In other words it apparently takes up relatively little in the way of system resources. Sunbelt expects this to be especially desirable in the netbook era, and it may not be long before security software becomes standard issue on smartphones too.

When we move on to recent threats they've observed, it's revealed that Twitter is increasingly being used as a vector for malware. As well is it being the social networking resource du jour, the added advantage for the bad guys of Twitter is that URLs are usually shortened - making it even harder to determine whether or not they're genuine.
