The bull run of the last few months had to come to an end eventually, and last week saw all our indices fall by a couple of percentage points and the FTSE 100 drop back below 5,000 for the first time in four weeks. One trigger for this will have been worse than expected US unemployment figures.

Every one of our list saw a decline in the value of their stock, bar Apple, which received plenty of positive publicity as it opened up the iPhone to more UK operators and revealed the snowballing success of its app store.

On the flip side AMD, which had its value rise by over 70 percent in the preceding month or so, suffered a nearly nine percent fall last week. There was no especially bad news to explain it, so this is probably a correction as investors worried they'd got a bit carried away.

3G phone chip giant Qualcomm was the other big loser last week as the Japanese Fair Trade Commission ordered it to remove some of the cross-license provisions it has included in agreements with Japanese licensees. Qualcomm has said it will appeal, of course, but its shares have been hit regardless.

I'm praying for a price cut on CPUs

I am not sure this will happen. I think GPU prices will come down and I see chipsets on motherboards are going down too, but I don't think CPU prices will change in the next month.
I know, I know, that's why I'm praying. Frankly I think prices are probably going to rise across the board for most if not all components as manufacturers clear their inventories, as the other report here already mentioned.

I also noticed a firming of component prices as we near the release date for Windows 7 as well. And there I was thinking I'll upgrade when Windows 7 comes out instead of formatting and installing the OS twice! *Sigh* laziness is going to cost me…
