AMD = Advanced Marketing Disbanded

Our Akahibara sauces have served notice of further miniaturisation at ever-leaner semiconductor outfit AMD

Not content with finding yet another justification for the term Fusion, top marketing bod Nigel Dessau has decided to fuse the advanced marketing group, also known internally as the web surfing department, into the proper, and dare we say credible, marketing function.

The advanced marketing group had been headed up by VP of advanced marketing Patrick Moorhead, a familiar figure to the HEXUS.community with a particular penchant for the HEXUS.tv camera.

We understand Pat Moorhead, who used to report into Dessau, will now join the little known ‘Office of Strategy' (yes, you heard right), where he will report into senior VP Marty Seyer alongside Charlie Boswell, who used to be in Moorhead's team.

This hardly looks like a promotion, and Dessau's conclusion that the big achievement of the advanced marketing group was to make AMD one of the most respected companies in social media hardly comes over as a ringing endorsement either. We thought Moorhead's blog had gone a bit quiet.

From being one of the principle spokespeople for AMD, Moorhead seems now to have been moved to a much more inward facing role. It says to us: "let's put handcuffs and shackles on you and duct tape your mouth".

We also have it on good authority that there will be further deep personnel cuts at AMD in the first half of 2010.

On a personal level we'll be sad not to have Pat Moorhead as an AMD spokesperson as he is passionate and engaging, but maybe AMD will still let him out to play every now and then. Then again we woudn't count on it, given that the last person to enter this Orwellian ministry soon made a dignified exit.
