More money for beer

A couple of weeks ago, HEXUS brought you the news that Microsoft will be offering Windows 7 to UK students for a limited time offer of £30.

At time of writing Microsoft saw fit to test the intellectual cream of British youth by stating on the promotional web page that the offer would commence on 30 September, only to then contradict itself in the very next paragraph by saying it would be 1 October.

Well, we've just heard that the offer went live at 4pm today, and the web link has been updated to this. Also, the wording of the deal (below) seems to have changed to only cover upgrade versions.

So, assuming they're out of bed by now and haven't yet made it to the pub, any students who want to get hold of Windows 7 for 30 quid have only three months to get their act together. Let us know how you get on in the HEXUS.community discussion forums.

The offer gives students the chance to purchase either Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade* OR Windows 7 Professional Upgrade* from a special website -http://www.ultimatesteal.co.uk with both versions available for the discounted price of £30 each. For those students requiring the full packaged product (FPP) they can opt to receive a boxed version, by post, for an additional cost of £9.

The offer is open to any UK student with a valid university or college email address (an email address given by the college or university, e.g. name@leeds.ac.uk) and will last until 3 January 2010 at which time the cost will revert to the standard pricing. This makes it a great opportunity for students to get their hands on the most highly anticipated Windows operating system of all time, whilst saving themselves money in the process.  The only other requirement is that students must currently have a genuine copy of Windows to be eligible to purchase the upgrade version.

*32 bit and 64 bit versions both available.

Ditto. Having the exact same problem. the ‘Shipping Method’ choice also bugs out a little.
