Computer maker, Hewlett Packard, has announced a very interesting new addition to its board of directors, naming Marc Andreessen, co-founder and chairman of Ning and general partner of VC outfit Andreessen Horowitz to the position.

Andreessen, who also sits on the board of directors at Ning, eBay and Facebook also previously served as chairman of the board of directors at Opsware, which he co-founded, and which was acquired by HP in July 2007.

He has served as chief technology officer of America Online Inc. and was a co-founder of Netscape Communications Corporation, serving in various positions, including chief technology officer and executive vice president of products.

And is doesn't stop there; Andreessen also co-authored Mosaic, the first widely used web browser and was part of the consortium that recently bought the majority of Skype from eBay, so he has enough on his CV to make most people's seem incredibly dull in comparison.

Andreessen's appointment will take immediate effect and will bring HP's total number of board members to 11, 10 of whom are outside directors.

"Marc Andreessen is a software pioneer whose leadership has helped shape the Internet," said Mark Hurd, HP's chairman and CEO. "Marc's entrepreneurial background and industry expertise will be a welcome addition to the HP board of directors," he added.

With Andreessen sitting on the boards of HP, eBay, Facebook and Ning he'll certainly have something of a 360 degree bird's eye view of the computer technology space. Hardware, software, enterprise, consumer, internet, you name it, Andreessenn will be an authority, nay, tech guru on it.

Also, since Andreessen Horowitz firm makes investments, all these directorships can come in very handy when deciding how to best help ones companies.

Andreessen himself wasn't available for comment.
