HTC prepares for WINning streak

According to various reports, proponents of Windows Mobile in the US are in for a treat on the service's 6 October launch date, as Verizon Wireless prepares to launch the much anticipated HTC imagio on the same day.

The device, codenamed Whitestone, which was originally thought by pundits to be the HTC Touch Diamond2, sports Windows Mobile 6.5, a 528MHz Qualcomm processor, 512MB ROM/256MB RAM, a 3.6-inch WVGA touchscreen display, five megapixel camera with auto-focus and anti-shake and GPS and GSM connectivity. As if that wasn't enough, Verizon is apparently also throwing in its own CDMA/EV-DO connectivity capabilities.

But the Winmo/HTC goody bag is also rumoured to contain the HTC LEO; a device said to be running on a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 320 MB of RAM. The Leo is said to boast a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen WVGA display, an eight megapixel camera with auto-focus and runs Windows Mobile 6.5.

The phone is purportedly a GSM sporting the HSDPA version of mobile broadband but also including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and a GPS receiver. There's no word yet on who will carry it in the US or when it should be available, but due to the prevalence of photos and specs readily available online, we shouldn't think the launch date will be too far off.

Of course, not all HTC's anticipated offerings run WinMo, case in point, the soon-to-be-released HTC Predator based on Google's Android software. Verizon Wireless will likely supply the device in late October.
