It wasn't a very good week for our list; especially given the bull-run stock markets have been on since their nadir in early March. With most stocks, and the leading indices, all down marginally on the week, we could be seeing the plateau if this particular market recovery.
While semiconductor giants Intel and Qualcomm struggled, it wasn't all negative last week. Smaller rivals AMD and NVIDIA both continued their upward climb, albeit more modestly than in previous weeks. For AMD specifically, it's as significant that it held onto its 20 percent jump of the previous week.
The gain was precipitated by an analyst upgrade, but it will be interesting to see what analysts make of this morning's news: that ATIC has bid for Chartered Semiconductor. ATIC owns around two thirds of AMD's former manufacturing operation - Global Foundries(GF) - with AMD still owning the remaining third.
While the combination of Chartered and GF should strengthen them both, the acquisition will be by ATIC, not GF, so the proportion of the combined operation owned by AMD will be diluted. AMD's 1.3 percent gain last week was pretty much eradicated in after-hours on Friday.
The other gainer of significance was NVIDIA, which may have received a lift at the end of the week with the apparent devotion shown to it by electronics giant Samsung.
