Nokia diversifies

As we suspected, Nokia has decided to join the netbook party with the launch of the Nokia Booklet 3G.

Nokia hasn't released too many details yet, but what seems to be a pretty standard specced netbook at first glance might be a lot more.

It uses an Intel Atom CPU, has a ten inch screen, and weighs 1.25 kilos, but there are a few bells and whistles that make us think Nokia will be positioning the Booklet at the premium end of the market.

As you would expect of Nokia, and of the name, it comes with 3G and HSPA mobile connectivity, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. It also has an aluminium chassis and is HD ready.

"We are in the business of connecting people and the Nokia Booklet 3G is a natural evolution for us," said Kai Oistamo, Nokia's executive VP for Devices.

"Nokia has a long and rich heritage in mobility and with the outstanding battery life, premium design and all day, always on connectivity, we will create something quite compelling. In doing so we will make the personal computer more social, more helpful and more personal."
