Shiny performance

Swiss PC peripherals giant Logitech has launched a couple of new mice featuring its new Darkfield Laser Tracking technology, which allows them to be used on clear glass and high gloss surfaces.

The desktop Performance Mouse MX and the notebook Anywhere Mouse MX claim an advantage over existing laser mice in their ability to be used on pretty much any flat surface. With even desktops now being positioned in a wider variety of locations, this could be a handy USP for Logitech.

Having said that, Microsoft has had a ‘use anywhere' mouse technology around for a while now in the form of BlueTrack. We must assume, however, from Logitech's focus on glass, that BlueTrack isn't so strong on that surface.

"Laptops have gained popularity in the last several years because of the freedom they afford - people today want to be able to connect to their digital world anytime, anywhere. However, until now, no mouse has been able to match that flexibility," said Rory Dooley, Logitech's senior VP and GM of the control devices business unit.

"Thanks to Logitech Darkfield, whether you're checking the morning news from the granite counter top in your kitchen or at work manipulating a spreadsheet from your glass desk, you can be confident that your Logitech mouse will be up to the task."

The Logitech Performance Mouse MX has a suggested retail price of £89.99 and the Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX has a suggested retail price of £69.99. Both are available now directly from Logitech and through its channel partners.

These optical/laser mice have such a small hole on the bottom it takes very nimble fingers using a tiny pair of tweezers to remove any hairs that fall inside. Ball mice were much easier to clean :)
