The next generation

Yesterday we served you up Intel beans on toast. Today we have advance warning of Corsair's mainstream DDR3 memory offering for Intel's Lynnfield family of processors, which will span both the Core i5 and Core i7 naming groups.

The latest XMS3 SKUs are dual-channel for the P55 chipset and will be compatible with AMD Phenom II dual-channel systems too. Here's a table summarising the four new SKUs. We would expect pricing to be consistent with market expectations.

Module Capacity Frequency Latency
CMX8GX3M4A1600C9  4x2GB
 1600MHz  9-9-9-24
CMX8GX3M4A1333C9  4x2GB  1333MHz  9-9-9-24
CMX4GX3M2A1600C8  2x2GB  1600MHz  8-8-8-24
CMX4GX3M2A1600C9  2x2GB  1600MHz  9-9-9-24

We haven't received news of new Dominator modules for Lynnfield yet, but they can't be far behind. And Corsair might want to get a move on, with Kingston and A-DATA having already launched their Lynnfield offerings.

UPDATE - 12:15, 17 August 2009: We mistakenly listed the 8GB SKUs as 2x4GB. They are, in fact 4x2GB and this has now been corrected.
