The poorly kept secret that is the UK Lunch of the Toshiba TG01 - the first consumer product to use Qualcomm's heralded Snapdragon chipset - has been announced by Orange today, which will, initially at least, be the exclusive source of it.

Orange is focusing on the ‘portable cinematic experience' offered by the TG01, with Snapdragon promising to offer superior processing, while still using low enough power to permit an otherwise normal smartphone user experience. It will cost you £39.15 per month for two years.

"We're really pleased to have teamed up with Toshiba to bring the TG01 exclusively to the UK," said Francois Mathieu, director of devices at Orange UK. "We believe the TG01 is a prime example of manufacturer innovation, and is a device that is at the very top of its game which will allow users to make the most from their mobile experience."

Orange seems to be ramping up its offering these day, having announced the impending launch of LG's watchphone earlier this week. Its biggest competitor in this area seems to be O2, which has added Palm's Pre devices to the iPhone in its smartphone portfolio.

Orange is also innovating in the area of SIM cards, announcing today it is introducing mini SIM cards - the main benefit apparently being a reduction in the amount of waste when you get a new one.

Here's an Orange video introducing the TG01.

mmmm need more 12month conracts!
Another iPod taker - downer
It looks pretty snazzy, but I'm not sure I'm a fan of the 3 tone menu…
at £40 a month for TWO YEARS LOL - thats laughable. Orange is bad enough at just under £20 a month locked in for 18 months…
but but it's on Orange! Oh well, cheap cinema tickets I suppose…
I'm already on the O2 network so could get an iphone, but seriously, how unreliable are they? I've been distinctly unimpressed with the quality of the hardware, and indeed the simplicity of activation for them.
