Keeping things simple?

Lenovo is set to launch the first mobile PC, as opposed to desktop, to utilise NVIDIA's graphics chip designed specifically to work with Intel's Atom CPU. However, Lenovo has informed us that, for the time being at least, ION won't be making an appearance in this form in Europe.

While the 12 inch, Atom based, Lenovo IdeaPad S12 isn't expected to be available until July, Lenovo has chosen to release some details early, possibly to seize the PR initiative over other ION mobile PC launches at Computex.

There are, in fact, three announcements: the S12, the IdeaPad U350 notebook, which runs on Intel CULV (consumer ultra-low voltage) processors and the G550 notebook, which appears to be a mid to high-end regular notebook. The price of the S12 is expected to start at £349 and the U350 at £449. There's no indication of the pricing on the G550 yet.

We expect to get a more detailed explanation of why the ION version won't be offered in Europe for now, but EMEA media relations manager Adrian Horne advised us that the greater number of 12 inch notebooks already available in Europe led Lenovo to decide to simplify its offering at this size.
