Not so safe?

A member of mac-forums.com has posted an account of waking up in the middle of the night to the smell of burning plastic. "Turns out my MacBook Pro was on fire," said Ken Brinkman.

He also posted some images, one of which is shown below, and as you can see it was in fact the end of the power connector that ignited.

This isn't the first time Apple has had issues reported about the ‘MagSafe' power connector, with reports of fraying a year ago. Additionally, a class-action law suit was filed against Apple earlier this month in San Jose, California, concerning alleged defects in the connector.

We would like to hear from any MacBook users who have experienced problems with the MagSafe power connector. Share your experiences in the HEXUS.community discussion forums.

Wheres the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth shattering kaboom!
Not looking quite so white and shiny anymore, is it? Methinks I might make sure mine is un-plugged at night from here on!
Suppose it's better the power connector than the battery exploding and taking the house with it.
im on my 3rd mag safe connector… admittedly one of them was gnawed through by my housemates rabbit it was getting a bit nackered by this time anyway. The other one had no visual signs of defect but just gradually stopped working over time, towards the end end i had to do all kinds of things to get the laptop to recognize the adapter like have the cable wedged in weird positions and ductape solutions… My housemate also has a macbook pro and shes on her 3rd or 4th too, similar situations they brake or get gnawed through by the rabit or the calbles start to frey.

whilst i love how convenient it is not having to worry aout someone knocking out the adaptor the things are complete s***e

Is it asking so very much for Apple to come up with a rodent-proof power adapter? I realise they produce aesthetically pleasing products but they are prone to ignoring practicalities aren't they?

On a serious note, I've had one for ages and it\'s looking ok… famous last words!
