Digital rights campaigning organisation, the Open Rights Group (ORG), has reported that new legislation called the European Data Retention Directive comes into effect today.
The law requires telephony companies and ISPs to retain information about the fixed line, mobile and internet communication conducted by their customers for a minimum of six months and maximum of two years.
Here's a breakdown of the types of data required to be retained and potentially made available, according to the directive, which can be viewed in full here.
