New store on New Street
Aside from the presence of lads mag favourite Jennifer Ellison, the opening of a new Virgin Media store on New Street in Birmingham wouldn't normally raise too many eyebrows.
These are far from normal times, however, and in this climate of store closures, job cuts and general corporate belt-tightening, it's good to see any signs of business optimism.
The store was opened last Saturday and is the first such opening by Virgin Media this year. It will offer the full monty of Virgin Media stuff, including broadband, cable TV and mobile phone services. There was also a demo of the V+ set-top box which, unsurprisingly, is positioned in competition with the Sky+ box.
It looks like Virgin Media was trying to inject a bit of fun into the whole affair. As well as involving model and TV star Jennifer Ellison it also had lookalikes of Mr T and Johnny Depp.
"The store offers people in the city the chance to experience the latest Virgin Media and Virgin Mobile products in a fresh, new and exciting environment," said Mark Schweitzer, chief commercial officer at Virgin Media.
