In the middle of last week we brought you the news that some signs of optimism in the tech sector and in world markets could be seen if you looked hard enough.

As ever this observation was couched with the usual ‘one swallow does not make a summer' caveats, which will persist for a long time yet, but we're pleased to report that this rare bout of optimism lasted the whole week.

The Dow finished the week nine percent up, the NASDAQ over ten percent and the FTSE didn't do too bad either. Looking at our list, the unremitting red of the past few weeks has been replaced by a uniform green as every stock posted a gain over the course of last week.

What jumps out immediately is percentage gains in the high teens by all three of the semiconductor stocks and we thought it might be interesting to view these in historical context.

Intel's shares last traded consistently at above $14 in early January of this year and haven't been above $15 for a sustained period since last October. NVIDIA hasn't regularly topped $10 since last September and AMD's shares last cost over $3 in November.
