Domestic bliss

Dell's been pretty busy with product launches recently. In the past month we've seen a couple of notebook launches, including the ultra-rugged Latitude E6400 XFR earlier this week, but it's clear that Dell has far from given up on the desktop segment.

We recently saw some new high-end Core i7 systems and yesterday Dell launched the Studio One 19, which is positioned as a family PC, to be situated in the living room or the kitchen and could be a direct competitor to the Apple iMac.

It's a desktop PC built into an LCD display, like the iMac, but offers "optional touch capability" No more is said on the matter in the press release, but it does proceed to talk about "moms" and "Spring Break" so we definitely get the message about the positioning of the product.

"The new Studio One 19 is as nice to look at as it is functional," said Alex Gruzen, senior VP of Dell's consumer products, in an apparent bid to remove the last traces of ambiguity from Dell's message.

"More and more people are making the kitchen the center of their entertainment and computing experience and the Studio One 19 is the ideal system for that need. The Studio One 19 is about lifestyle and design and is very affordable for the family."

So it's meant for the office, right?

Among the concessions to fluffy domesticity are the use of fabric and glass in the design, colour options such as Tuscan Red and Powder Pink (see images) and a single power cord.
