Going public

Just as AMD did last month, NVIDIA's first response to this has been to go public, so we're all treated to the spectacle of two corporations arguing with each other through the media.

Wasting no time in moving to round three of the spat, the GM of GeForce at NVIDIA - Ujesh Desai - spoke to HEXUS.channel to elaborate further on NVIDIA's response to this escalation of hostilities.

"We have been working with them and frankly we were shocked and surprised that they filed in court on a holiday without even telling us," said Desai. Monday was the President's Day public holiday in the US.

Asked for some clarification on the nature of Intel's objection, Desai referred back to the integrated memory controller functionality. "They're saying it's a new FSB (front side bus) but it isn't," he said. "Why have they picked this moment to question something that was negotiated four years ago?"

Good question. So good in fact that we asked it back and got to the bottom of where NVIDIA thinks Intel is coming from. "At first Atom PCs were quite restricted, but with ION you can watch HD video and play games," said Desai. "Intel's biggest competitor isn't AMD any more, it's Atom."
