HP reunion

AMD has announced the appointment of Sergio Ceresa to the role of director of sales for the retail segment for EMEA. He will report to EMEA head honcho Alberto Bozzo.

"As the path to the consumer, the retail market represents a strategic segment for AMD," said Bozzo. "I am confident that Sergio's experience in this area makes him the right person to leverage AMD's strong product line-up and value proposition as the only company able to deliver high-performance processor and graphics products."

If you're thinking this move has a rather familiar feel to it you would have a point. Last June AMD grabbed Emilio Ghilardi from HP to head up its EMEA operations. Then it promoted Ghilardi to chief sales officer and plundered HP once more to get Bozzo.

This is a confirmation of what was predicted last November when AMD had, even by its own recent standards, a big shake-up of its EMEA executive team. It's still not clear however, given that the main route to market for boxed AMD processors is the channel, where the boundaries separating the roles of Ceresa, channel sales director Darren Grasby and European channel director Andrew Buxton lie.

No doubt all will become clear soon...
