Solid prices?

Intel has announced it's dropping the price of its 2.5 inch solid state drives (SSDs). The new prices are in the table below, but note they're for OEM/channel. ‘M' signifies notebook/client models and ‘E ‘signifies models designed for enterprise.

When these drives started shipping last September Intel only published the price of the 80GB version in the press release - $595. So they've chopped $200 of that one at least.

A quick look at Scan's SSD page reveals the 80GB Intel X25-M is available for pre-order at £304.73 at time of writing. That's still a relatively high price per GB, but Intel is clearly still comfortable pricing its SSDs at the premium end.

Model Price
X-25M 80GB $390
X-25M 160GB $765
X-25E 32GB $415
x-25E 64GB $795

What do you think; are the prices now low enough that you would consider buying one? Let us know in the HEXUS.community.

Still far too much money. SSDs need to either match HDDs in longevity, or prices.
Prices are still too high, but they are getting to a range I could think about (the OCZ and Samsung Drives that is, not the intel drives).
I'm almost tempted. Knock another £50 off and I'd buy. I think there's a die-shrink set of Intel SSDs coming out at the end of the year - perhaps they will be cheaper.
Too expensive for me. Maybe in a year or so…
The performance is there, maybe iron out a few areas to pull even further away from standard drives.
If anyone has even used a good SSD you'll know why it commands such a high price (I do agree its too high right now)

If the lowest end was higher capacity, at least 200GB I'd snap it up at its current price, 80GB doesn't give you much leeway for anything,
Once it gets to about WD Velociraptor in pricing then things will get really interesting.
