Clarification
It seems that the news of AMD spinning off its manufacturing operations into a new company broke a bit sooner than AMD had hoped.
The formal announcement will be made by CEO Dirk Meyer and some other execs at 1pm UK time and is expected to cover the following aspects: -
- The rationale behind the move
- The effect on AMD business
- The implications to AMD partners
- The implications to AMD customers
Following this it will become apparent what role former CEO and now executive chairman Hector Ruiz will have in the new company.
Update -12:00 7th October 2008: We now have the official press release on the move and it confirms Ruiz's role in the new company, saying: "Hector Ruiz will relinquish his current role as AMD's executive chairman and chairman of the board to become chairman of The Foundry Company."
