Who will buy?
Transmeta, a US company that makes its money from selling licenses for its semiconductor intellectual property (IP) has decided to try to sell itself "as a way to enhance value for all its stockholders."
In a separate announcement, Transmeta revealed that it has entered into two licensing agreements with Intel in which Intel shells out $91.5 million up front for some licensing agreements instead of a larger sum over a five year period.
Transmeta specialises in low power processor designs. This deal was apparently struck to make its balance sheet look better and more transparent for prospective buyers.
Les Crudele, president and CEO of Transmeta, said: "We expect that our intellectual property portfolio and licensing business, combined with our solid balance sheet, will be attractive to potential bidders, and we look forward to conducting a timely process to maximize value for our stockholders."
