It's been all semiconductor companies this week, with Intel, AMD and NVIDIA dominating the headlines (for a change), starting with Intel announcing the launch of a bunch more processors and dropping some prices to make room for them.

While we reported on AMD dropping the price of three processors a day later, they had in fact lowered them the previous week. While we reported on AMD dropping the price of three processors a day later, they it had in fact lowered them the previous week. The only desktop battle between the CPU giants right now is in the sector under $235, since AMD sells nothing costing more.

As if Intel's domination of the high performance CPU market wasn't already emphatic enough, we were reminded what awaits us before the end of the year with the announcement of the name for the Nehalem generation of Intel processors.

This is the next iteration of its 45nm process, will have four cores and be the latest Core processor so they'll be called...i7. What else? Once you see it it's so obvious isn't it? Apparently there is some iMethod to this iMadness but Intel couldn't really tell us what.
