Back from the Mac?

At the inaugural session of Microsoft’s annual off-the-record CEO summit, Bill Gates unveiled a projection touch screen hardware setup called TouchWall. The supporting software, called Plex, runs on a standard version of Vista.

TouchWall/Plex are superficially similar to Microsoft Surface, the multi-touch table computer released at select AT&T stores in April. But the new product is a fundamentally simpler and cheaper system – hundreds of dollars vs. the $10,000 cost of Surface.

In one of the videos accompanying the product announcement, influential tech blogger Michael Arrington is shown playing with TouchWall. “Awesome,” he said. “This will get me to change back from Mac.”

Music to Bill’s ears, no doubt. We may be sure that the 115 CEO’s from 26 countries at the summit will be going home with a little extra luggage.
