AMD presents its latest roadmap for business computing...

AMD has been briefing certain analysts what it’s got in store on the server front and HEXUS.channel is able to show you the slides from the presentation.

Randy Allen (pictured), AMD’s corporate VP and GM for server and workstation, commenced his update of AMD’s server workstation processor roadmap by stating: “Based on input from our OEM partners, AMD is updating its server roadmap to strengthen its alignment with end-customer priorities.”

“Today’s roadmap updates support AMD’s long-standing goal ofmeeting our OEM partners’ demands for platform longevity while driving increased performance-per-watt and more advanced virtualization features and functionality.”

He went on to make the following announcements:

  • AMD’s first 45nm server processor, codenamed “Shanghai” is on schedule to begin production in the second half of 2008.
  • A 6-core server processor that is new to the roadmap and is codenamed “Istanbul” is due to arrive in the second half of 2009.
  • Its third-generation Opteron processor, Socket G34 platform, is planned for the first half of 2010.
  • Socket G34 will accommodate a new 6-core processor, codenamed “Sao Paulo”, and a 12-core one with the codename of “Magny Cours”.
