Upgrade from cattle-class

AMD has announced its riposte in the escalating battle for the hearts and minds of the channel between it and Intel.

AMD Business Class is positioned as an ‘initiative’ and appears to be designed to encourage the channel to build AMD-based PCs for their SMB and corporate customers.

It will do so by making it easier to address the following issues:

- Energy-efficient performance

- Stability and longevity

- Security and manageability

‘AMD Business Class processors are based on the same innovative technology that powers the world’s most advanced servers,’ said Dirk Meyer, president and COO, AMD. ‘Our solutions are designed to give commercial customers the assurance that platforms are designed with their business in mind to help get more from their computing infrastructure, longer.’

Apparently as part of this initiative, AMD has also announced a ‘platform’ designed specifically for the corporate desktop ‘which configures in a variety of ways to better meet customer needs.’

AMD lists a number of components that are available on this platform:

- Phenom X3 triple-core processors

- Phenom X4 quad-core processors

- Athlon X2 dual-core processors

- 780V chipsets

- Optional ATI Radeon HD 3000 series discrete graphics

It is stressed that the platform also supports non-AMD graphics and chipsets.
